Our People

Exis is a small consultancy providing customised solutions from small business through to large multi-national corporations. Our team works closely with our clients, forming long-term relationships which provide value through consistency of approach and personnel – something unique to smaller consultancies. We continue to develop new and innovative ways to approach HSEQ outcomes in an ever changing operating and regulatory environment.

Our team keeps up-to-date with the latest techniques and practices through participation in industry forums, conferences and national and international associations and places a high value on continued professional development. Our team is backed by partners and associates across Australia who provide us with additional technical capacity in specialist areas such as dangerous goods and chemical management, confined spaces, working at heights, process engineering and occupational hygiene.

Aaron Westwood – Director

B. Env. Sc., Cert IV Trn & Assess., Registered Lead Auditor, MEIANZ, AMIEMA.

Aaron holds a Bachelor of Environmental Science (Env Mgt Major) and has over 13 years experience implementing ISO management systems, auditing and training for a range of industries nationally and internationally. Aaron has gained certification as a Registered Lead Environmental Auditor with RABQSA, has completed Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and holds a current OHS Induction White Card for the construction industry. Aaron has written guidebooks published in Australia, has written articles for WME Magazine since 2005 and continues to present papers at conferences across Australia.

Aaron has considerable HSEQ audit experience, having completed over 130 audit assignments in Australia and internationally as Lead Auditor or as part of an audit team. He has also been involved in the development of commercially available audit protocols and tools as well as custom audit tools and support packages. Aaron has assisted in the development and certification of safety, environmental and quality management systems for over 50 clients in a wide range of industries nationally and internationally. Aaron also assists clients with broader corporate social responsibility systems, working with leading sustainability guidelines including the Equator Principles and World Bank, IFC and ICMM Guidelines. Aaron is an experienced trainer having developed and delivered public training courses, ranging from half day awareness sessions to three-day intensive management systems, safety and auditing courses. Aaron has also delivered in-house training for many clients and has developed comprehensive training packages and tools for effective internal capacity building.

Karen Dunlop – Consultant

B.Arts (Honours), Cert IV OHS (pending)

Karen Dunlop has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours – Politics) and has worked in the environment industry for over four years. Throughout her undergraduate and postgraduate studies, Karen developed strong research and writing skills, and she has a keen interest in social equality and environmental sustainability. Karen holds a current OHS Induction White Card for the construction industry and has completed the 5-day certified environmental auditor workshop and is currently completing Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety.

Karen has experience writing documentation for environmental, safety and quality management systems for clients in various industries such as mining and automotive nationally and internationally. Her work for several international mining clients includes documentation to meet international standards and guidelines such as the Equator Principles, World Bank and ICMM Principles. Karen is a specialist policy writer and has written group and site-based policies for many companies. Karen has also been involved in the development of both inhouse and public training programs, as well as associated training materials including presenter’s and participant’s notes and competency assessment tests.

Phoebe Goddard

B.Bus (HR Major), Cert IV OHS

Phoebe has a Bachelor of Business, with Human Resources Major and Certificate IV in Occupational health and Safety. Phoebe has over four years experience in safety, having worked for nearly three years on underground and open-cut coal mines in the Bowen Basin in central Queensland before moving into consulting. She has a wide range of safety skills including management systems development and implementation, incident investigation, compliance reporting and risk management.

Phoebe has an extensive training history, having completed courses on return to work, auditing, first aid, safety leadership, ICAM incident investigation and more. Phoebe joined the Exis team in 2012 and has worked on a range of projects gaining exposure in a range of industries. Initially seconded as Safety Advisor to a NSW coal mining company during exploration stage, Phoebe has also worked with clients in industries such as automotive, retail, agricultural and manufacturing. As well as developing safety and environmental systems, Phoebe has developed and delivered in-house training programs and conducts regular audits on behalf of  number of clients.
